Police press child porn charges after online youth extortion investigation

By Alex Zoltan

An alleged attempt at extorting a rural Alberta youth through an “online game” has resulted in a man being charged with numerous offences — including multiple child pornography charges.

Abdul-Waris Omotolani Shittu, 24, has been charged with making sexually explicit material available to a child, extortion, possession of child pornography, access to child pornography and distribution of child pornography

In December of 2024, Oyen RCMP received a report from a rural Alberta youth who claimed they’d fallen victim to online extortion when interacting with someone they met online.

Oyen RCMP conducted a thorough investigation which included obtaining judicial authorizations to obtain information associated with the suspect’s social media accounts, email accounts, and banking information.

Through the course of the investigation, a male resident of North York, Ontario, was identified as a suspect.

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, members of the Toronto Police Service executed a Criminal Code search warrant in the Weston Road and Finch Avenue West area.

Shittu is set to appear in court in the Toronto area on May 30, 2025.
