A man once listed among Canada’s most wanted fugitives is facing a second first-degree murder charge in Edmonton, adding to the country’s troubling pattern of repeat violent offenders.
Saed Osman, 30, and Amiir Hussen, 27, have been charged with first-degree murder in the 2020 fatal shooting of Mahad Bashir Farah, the Edmonton Police Service announced Monday.
In December 2020, police responded to a weapons complaint in downtown Edmonton, where officers found Farah injured; he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy confirmed Farah died from gunshot wounds.
Osman became a wanted man in 2022, when a Canada-wide warrant was issued after a mass shooting at Ertale Lounge on March 12, 2022, where 70 bullets were fired, killing Imbert George, 28, and injuring seven others.
In November 2022, EPS partnered with Crime Stoppers and the Bolo Program to offer a $50,000 reward for information leading to Osman’s arrest.
Osman was ranked #5 on the Bolo Program’s Top 25 most wanted list.
The reward expired on May 1, 2023.
Police Supt. Shane Perka, at the time, issued a direct warning to Osman: “There’s nowhere to go, and we will apprehend you sooner or later. Do the right thing, call a lawyer, and turn yourself in.”
Osman, who is from Ontario, was described as armed, dangerous, and operating under aliases including “Guled Osman” and the nickname “Styles”.
Police previously warned the public not to approach him.
The same 2022 shooting also led to first-degree murder charges against Mohamod Mohamod, 22, and Said Ibrahim, 23.
Two other suspects in that case remain unidentified.
Co-accused Amiir Hussen, arrested in February in Edmonton, faces another charge of second-degree murder in an unrelated case in Regina regarding the 2022 killing of Leslie Victor John Whitebear.
These back-to-back murder charges raise growing concerns related to how repeat violent offenders continue to escape justice in Canada.
