A 30-year-old male has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Ajax.

Police allege that Gowryshankar Kathirkamanathan picked up the 14-year-old child victim in Hamilton and drove her to Ajax—nearly a two-hour drive.

Thereafter, Kathirkamanathan allegedly confined and sexually assaulted the minor for days.

According to a statement released by the Durham Region Police Service, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, members of the DRPS Special Victims Unit started an investigation upon receiving information from the Hamilton Police Service that a female victim had been sexually assaulted and forcibly confined in the Ajax area.

“The suspect picked up the 14-year-old victim in Hamilton and drove her to Ajax where she was confined and sexually assaulted over a period of days‚” police wrote in a Saturday news release.

The suspect was taken into custody on Friday, May 2, and was charged with over a dozen criminal offences.

Specifically, Kathirkamanathan has been charged with five counts of sexual assault, five counts of sexual interference, forcible confinement, uttering threats, assault, and two counts of overcoming resistance to the commission of an offence through the administration of a drug.

Police added the victim and accused were known to each other “through a mutual connection” but neglected to provide further details or expand on the nature of said mutual connection.

He has been held in custody for a bail hearing.
