A disturbing screenshot allegedly linked to a 14-year-old charged with the fatal stabbing of an elderly woman in Pickering is making rounds online, prompting questions about whether the accused may have posted messages foreshadowing the attack.
The message, shared on platforms like Reddit and other message boards, appears to come from a Discord account using the handle “Yoshikage Kira”—the name of a fictional serial killer from the Japanese anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.
The message reads: “Hello, to avoid my arrest, I’ll be heading to Toronto via train, and I won’t be available nor present for school til a good month or five months. During this time I might kill something… I’ll be carrying a knife, luggage, money and a briefcase. And if I see that [censored] again I will kill her.”
True North attempted to contact Durham Regional Police to verify whether investigators believed the Discord messages were tied to the killings but did not receive a response.
The authenticity of the message has not been confirmed by police, and investigators have not commented on any potential online activity connected to the accused.
The chilling message mirrors aspects of the incident, which occurred Thursday afternoon. Durham Regional Police responded to a call near Lynn Heights Drive and Fairport Road around 3 p.m., where an elderly woman was found with life-threatening stab wounds. She was rushed to hospital but later died of her injuries.
The victim’s identity is being withheld at her family’s request.
Authorities say the attack appears to have been random and unprovoked, with no known connection between the suspect and the victim. The motive remains under investigation, and police have not said whether a weapon was recovered.
Nearby security camera footage depicts the suspect wearing a long, black trench coat and a suitcase—an image echoed in some online posts.
Police have not officially commented on whether this footage is connected to the investigation.
The accused made a virtual court appearance on Friday and is scheduled to return on June 20. Due to his age, he cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Durham Regional Police continue to ask anyone with information or relevant video footage to come forward.
