A dangerous offender on statutory release has been charged with robbery in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, just months after police had issued a public warning about his high risk of reoffending.
Tyler Gordon Strathdee, 36, was the subject of a Vancouver Police Department public safety alert in December 2024. At the time, he had recently obtained statutory release and was residing in a halfway house in Vancouver.
Vancouver police warned in their statement that Strathdee “posed a significant risk of harm to the community and was a high risk to commit further physical and sexual violence.”
Those warnings proved well justified when a recent investigation led to new criminal charges against Strathdee.
According to the investigation, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of robbery against Strathdee on April 28 in connection with an incident that occurred in the Downtown Eastside on February 23—just weeks after Vancouver police issued their public warning.
At the time of his latest arrest, the 36-year-old was still in the process of serving an 11-year, two-month jail sentence for multiple violent offences committed in Alberta, including robbery, assault with a weapon, sexual assault, and manslaughter.
Although his sentence expires in 2028, Stradhee obtained statutory release, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence in the community, with certain conditions.
Those conditions included not consuming alcohol or drugs, not associating or communicating with anyone involved in criminal activity and/or substance misuse, not being in the presence of sex trade workers and reporting to a parole supervisor on all sexual and non-sexual relationships and friendships with females.
Stradhee was taken into custody at his Downtown Eastside halfway house, and remains in custody according to police.
