Edmonton police seek “South Asian male” in alleged sex assaults

By Alex Zoltan

Investigators with the Edmonton police sexual assault unit are asking for the public’s help in identifying a “South Asian male” suspect linked to a string of alleged incidents reported in the city’s southeast.

The Edmonton Police Service’s Sexual Assault Section say three separate incidents have been reported — two on April 22 and a third on April 27 — all in the Charlesworth neighbourhood.

In each case, the suspect is alleged to have been preying on women walking alone on local footpaths.

Police describe the suspect as a South Asian man between 20 and 40 years old, standing between 5’9” and 6’ tall, with a slim build and facial hair.

He was reportedly wearing a bright pink turban and a dark plaid jacket. In the most recent incident, he was seen wearing gym pants with a white stripe.

EPS is issuing the warning in the interest of public safety. They say the three incidents are being actively investigated and are believed to be connected.

Police are also asking area residents to take extra precautions, especially when using walking paths at this time.

Charlesworth and area residents are asked to report suspicious activity or individuals matching the suspect’s description and anyone with information is asked to contact Edmonton police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
