Alleged police impersonator arrested after calling 9-1-1 to make a report

A 39-year-old man was arrested after allegedly impersonating a police officer in Richmond. He pulled over a driver and subsequently called 9-1-1 to file a report.

On Sunday, May 18, shortly after 1 p.m., Richmond RCMP received a report of a “suspicious circumstance,” wherein a complainant reported being pulled over by a Ford Mustang equipped with red and blue police lights. The complainant said the driver of the Mustang exited his vehicle wearing a police badge lanyard and asked for a driver’s license.

Suspecting the driver of the Mustang was not a real police officer, the complainant said they drove away and reported the incident to police thereafter from a “safe location.”

In a strange twist, police said they then received a call from the suspected driver of the Mustang, who reported he had been following a possible impaired driver.

Richmond RCMP frontline officers then located and arrested the suspect for impersonating a police officer.

Authorities haven’t gone as far as to name the suspect but they are providing details on the individual’s appearance as a “public warning” and to help identify “other potential victims and to prevent any further victimization.”

The suspect is described as a South Asian man, 39-years-old, between five-foot-eight and five-foot-10, with a medium build and a salt-and-pepper goatee; he was wearing dark grey clothing, a dark-coloured satchel bag and a police badge lanyard.

This incident follows another story True North reported on recently in the same area, where an alleged kidnapping attempt involved someone also suspected of impersonating a police officer.
