A self-identified “communist” who doesn’t believe parents “don’t have rights” over their children has won a Vancouver city council byelection.
On April 5, the largest amount of votes went to perennial candidate Sean Orr, who has boasted about his far-left views on social media.
Alongside Orr, Vancouver city council candidate and environmental lawyer Lucy Maloney was also elected.
Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and his ABC party, which ran on a platform of being tough on crime, congratulated Orr on social media.
The election presented a blow to ABC Vancouver which saw neither of its two candidates, Jaime Stein and Ralph Kaisers, get elected.
Sean Orr said last year on Twitter, “NDP isn’t communist, I know this because I’m a communist and I’m not voting for them.”
Orr pointed to North Korea as a real example of communism, one of the most authoritarian regimes in the world.
Even with Orr’s publicly expressed opposition to the NDP, federal NDP MP and incumbent candidate Don Davies still congratulated Orr, endorsing his stance on housing and ‘green policies’.
Orr’s public record includes his belief that parents “don’t have rights”, in the context of gender ideology and transgender issues. Orr has advocated that schools keep the gender identity of children a secret from their parents.
Orr is a part of the democratic socialist network in North America, which endorsed radical left politicians like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.
The democratic socialist platform in Vancouver includes defunding the Vancouver police, committing to ‘land back aspirations’, and refusing cooperation with Canadian border authorities to protect illegal immigrants.
