North Vancouver RCMP arrested and subsequently released a volleyball coach over what police are calling “an ongoing sexual assault investigation involving a youth.”
The man, whose name has not been disclosed, was released under a number of conditions pending charge approval and further investigation.
North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Mansoor Sahak said the allegations involve sexual assaults that are alleged to have occurred over “several years.”
While remaining tight-lipped on the identity of the suspect, Sahak disclosed that the victim is a female and that there may be additional victims.
“It is concerning anytime an act like this occurs in our community,” Sahak said.
“What I can assure is that we’re doing everything we can to protect the people that have been affected. The suspect accused has been released on conditions, and the conditions protect the people that have been affected.”
Sahak would not share exactly what the suspect’s release conditions were.
The coach is facing a potential sexual assault charge, but Crown prosecutors have not confirmed any details.
