Another Canadian police union has endorsed Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre in the upcoming federal election.

The Durham Regional Police Association has endorsed Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada, marking the second major police union in the Greater Toronto Area to back the Conservative leader ahead of the upcoming federal election.

“The Durham Regional Police Association is proud to endorse the Conservative Party of Canada and Pierre Poilievre in the upcoming Federal Election,” said the association via its official X account on Tuesday.

In their statement, the association said its endorsement reflects growing concern among front-line officers about rising crime and what it described as a lack of support for police under the current Liberal government.

The Peel Regional Police Association has likewise endorsed Poilievre for Prime Minister. Meanwhile, the Toronto Police Association called on the two main party leaders to respond to four key public safety concerns before Friday, April 18.

In a formal letter posted through various social media channels, the TPA told Liberal leader Mark Carney and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre that more than 8,500 police and civilian members are “watching this election closely” to see how each party will deal with these pressing.

In its letter, the TPA also slammed the Trudeau-Carney Liberals for having to “watch the deterioration” of Toronto communities “over the last several years” — “in part due to a lack of proper funding, adequate support and strong leadership in the areas of policing and public safety.”

As reported earlier by True North, Prime Minister Mark Carney has offered few if any assurances on what will happen regarding crime, bail reform or any amendments to the criminal justice system should he win the upcoming federal election on April 28.

Poilievre, on the other hand, has made the issue a lynchpin of his federal election campaign.
