Trump accuses Trudeau of exploiting tariff crisis for power

Following a phone call between Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and U.S. President Donald Trump over the emerging U.S.-Canada tariff war, Trump accused Trudeau of leveraging the crisis to stay in power.

Trump began his Wednesday post by saying he was unsatisfied with Canada’s response to securing the U.S.-Canada border against illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

“Justin Trudeau, of Canada, called me to ask what could be done about Tariffs. I told him that many people have died from Fentanyl that came through the Borders of Canada and Mexico, and nothing has convinced me that it has stopped,” Trump said. “He said that ‘it’s gotten better,’ but I said, ‘That’s not good enough.’”

He continued saying that the call ended in a “somewhat friendly manner,” but he was left questioning why Canada had yet to hold an election despite Trudeau’s resignation announcement.

“He was unable to tell me when the Canadian Election is taking place, which made me curious, like, what’s going on here? I then realized he is trying to use this issue to stay in power,” Trump said. “Good luck Justin!”

Trump said he also told Trudeau’s policies were “largely” to blame for the tariffs.

“I also told Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada that he largely caused the problems we have with them because of his Weak Border Policies, which allowed tremendous amounts of Fentanyl and Illegal Aliens to pour into the United States,” Trump wrote. “These Policies are responsible for the death of many people!”

The Prime Minister’s Office did not respond to True North’s requests to comment.

Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt was asked several questions about Trump’s justification for the tariff war against Canada.

When asked if Trump plans to “move forward and try” to make Canada the 51st state, Leavitt responded by reaffirming that Trump “feels strongly” that it would be “very beneficial” for Canada to become the 51st state.

She was also asked about the negative impact his tariffs are reportedly having and will have on the American economy.

She said that Trump is being frank and honest about the impact the tariffs will have on Americans but that his extensive tax cuts and deregulation will push the U.S. ontop in the trade war.

“The President does love tariffs. He said it’s one of his favourite words of the English dictionary, and he believes in tariffs, because they’ll ultimately make America rich again,” she said. “They’re going to raise revenue, they’re going to help us pay down our debt. Most importantly, they’re going to bring American jobs here back home.”

“This whole of government, economic approach, which includes tax cuts, tariffs, regulation, cuts in an energy industry that will bring down costs for American consumers.”

Trudeau has yet to make any comment publicly about the phone call.
