A radical climate group known for blockading traffic internationally has claimed responsibility after a Montreal Tesla dealership and the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa were vandalized with paint.
The group, Last Generation, describes itself as a “climate disaster protection agency” engaging in “nonviolent civil resistance” because they believe it’s their “last chance at survival.”
Formed in Germany, the group has been investigated by European extremism and terrorism authorities since 2023 for alleged attempts to sabotage critical infrastructure.
The group is affiliated with the far-left A22 network, “an international community fanning the flames of civil disobedience,” which seeks to recruit members for “effective resistance.”
Montreal police arrested two of the group’s members after they spray-painted a Tesla dealership in Montreal on Wednesday to protest the electric vehicle manufacturer’s owner, Elon Musk.
Montreal police arrested a young man and woman at the Tesla dealership located on Décarie Boulevard in the city’s Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood.
“The billionaires and the ultra-rich are destroying our future for their own gain,” said one of the protestors at the scene. “While millions of people are being displaced, and people our age are dying protecting us, our government prioritizes helping these mega-corporations, instead of investing in protecting their own population.”
The act was the latest in a string of vandalism waged against Tesla vehicles and dealerships across North America. The vandalism follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s appointment of Musk to oversee the new Department of Government Efficiency, which has been cutting government spending and programs deemed fraudulent or wasteful.
Tesla showrooms, charging stations and privately owned cars have been vandalized and in some cases burned with Molotov cocktails as dozens of protests have gathered outside various dealerships and factories.
A Vancouver area auto show recently banned Tesla from participating, citing “safety” concerns as far-left activists escalated protests against Musk on Wednesday.
The show’s executive director, Eric Nicholl, told FOX Business the exhibition “has removed Tesla as a participant in this week’s event.”
He further said their primary concern was “the safety of attendees, exhibitors and staff.”
“This decision will ensure all attendees can be solely focused on enjoying the many positive elements of the event,” Nicholl explained.
Musk called the attacks “deeply wrong,” saying that the EV company has done “nothing to deserve them.”
“This level of violence is insane and deeply wrong,” wrote Musk on X Tuesday, which included a video of burning Teslas in Las Vegas. “Tesla just makes electric cars and has done nothing to deserve these evil attacks.”
A separate incident involving a Last Generation protestor occurred Thursday after a woman spray-painted the U.S. embassy in Ottawa.
The act was part of a campaign organized by the Action Network to target who they call the “ultra-rich” as part of the “TeslaTakedown.”
Police took the woman into custody and confirmed that most of the spray paint has since been removed.
Members of Last Generation protesters also climbed atop Montreal’s Jacques Cartier Bridge and rushed the field of a Toronto Blue Jays baseball game last year.
