A source within the federal Conservatives has told True North that the party intends to nominate Jeremy Nixon and Amanpreet Gill as candidates for Calgary Confederation and Calgary Skyview respectively.
Len Webber, who represented the riding of Calgary Confederation, announced on Saturday that he would not be seeking reelection.
Weber held the federal riding since 2015. In a statement posted on social media, he said “the time has come to pass the torch” and “find other ways to serve the community.”
Former UCP MLA Nixon will run in Weber’s place as a candidate. Nixon formerly was a member of the Alberta provincial legislature under the UCP banner in the 30th Alberta legislative session from 2019 to 2023. The riding has been Conservative since its creation in 2012 and the following three elections in 2015, 2019 and 2021.
Liberal incumbent for Calgary Skyview, George Chahal, will be instead running for re-election in the newly created Calgary McKnight riding. Chahal recently failed to admit if taxpayer funds would be used to fund his campaign ads. He was also found guilty of violating election laws after he was caught removing a Conservative flyer from a community member’s door by a camera in the 2021 federal election.
Amanpreet Singh, a former UCP candidate in the 2023 provincial election will be running against Chahal in the 2025 federal election.
Current poll aggregations by 338 Canada project a Liberal/CPC toss up in the riding.
The federal election is set to take place on April 28th.
