The Edmonton Police Service has charged and subsequently released a former NDP staffer with child porn crimes and other sex offences against a minor.
On Friday, EPS announced Yasin Cetin, 32, was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, luring a child under 16, making child pornography and distribution of child pornography. The victim in question was 14 years old.
The accused is a former civilian employee of the very same police force that arrested him, having previously worked in “community and public engagement” for the EPS. Cetin was also an NDP staffer for over four years according to at least one interview.
Despite concerns there could be other victims unaccounted for, Cetin was released with conditions following his arrest.
Cetin’s conditions include not to have any contact or communication with anyone under 16 years of age, not to attend any public swimming area, school, daycare, playground, youth shelter or public library.
The EPS said its investigation began after receiving a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a minor.
The Edmonton police’s child protection section detectives determined the suspect had allegedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy after meeting him through Snapchat.
Authorities say the suspect was known to use the alias and display name “BadLee” on Snapchat.
Investigators are concerned other young males may have also been victimized by Cetin, releasing Cetin’s photo to encourage anyone else who may have been victimized to contact police.
The EPS said Cetin resigned from their force on May 31, 2024, also noting the alleged sexual assault had not been reported to police while Cetin was employed with the organization.
